Light Weight Aluminum Flywheel, 11lb, 1.8T, Longitudinal $469.00

Aasco/Unorthodox Racing 1.8T flywheel - Best used with South Bend Clutch kits utilizing a clutch disc with a sprung-hub.

Lightweight 6061-T6 billet aluminum
• CNC machined to .001"
• Real HP & torque gains across entire RPM range
• Wear-resistant, replaceable treated alloy steel friction inserts
• Stepped Dowel Pins
• Torque plates included in applications where required
• High quality polished finish

Unorthodox Racing Ultra Series aluminum flywheels have some key advantages over stock and other aftermarket units. Machining tolerances are extremely important when making a flywheel. Eccentricity, parallelism, and the step height (which is critical to proper clutch break-in and engagement) are kept to within .0015”, the most accurate in the industry! Dowel pins are hardened steel units and all hardware is grade 8 (grade 10.9 metric equivalent), one of the highest grades of fastener s available today. Torque plates are also included in applications where required and flywheels are checked for zero-balance before shipping.

Ferritic Nitrocarburized Inserts/Friction Surface
(Heat Shields)
We get a lot of questions about our new “black” inserts. Unorthodox Racing is the first to bring this kind of innovation to market. These inserts are made from a high grade steel, but they utilize a unique ferritic nitrocarburizing process that hardens the steel to protect it against aggressive ceramic clutches.

The result? A surface more durable than a cast iron OEM or chrome-moly flywheel! It also will not rust and is resistant to metallic friction materials seizing against the flywheel.

This method has proven to work better than just using harder steel because it keeps the coefficient of friction high, which is what all clutches like! Harder steels (such as 1050) have a much lower coefficient of friction.

Another important factor is the way UR machines them. All inserts are CNC-machined, not quickly ground like most aftermarket units, providing a surface that is parallel to within .001”! As a result, extended periods of clutch break-in are not required.

Stepped Dowel Pins
Here is another innovative design that Unorthodox Racing was the first to come to market with. Many of the flywheels now include stepped dowel pins. The advantage of stepped dowel pins is that if a pin were loosened during installation, there is no possibility of that pin coming out of the flywheel. It will be retained by the clutch cover.

Serviceable
Another benefit to these aluminum flywheels is the fact that they can be serviced, which is not the case with forged chrome-moly steel flywheels. All the inserts, also known as heat shields, are standardized sizes (unlike many other aftermarket flywheels in which you play a "guessing game" trying to find the correct replacement) and are user replaceable. None of the heat shields are riveted.

Ring Gears
All ring gears are heated before they are placed on the flywheel and then cooled to shrink them in place. In addition they are bolted to ensure the ring gear will never slip or come off the flywheel under any circumstances, including dramatic changes in temperature.

Weight
The flywheel weights are chosen very carefully. They are the perfect balance of strength and light weight. Because of their light weight, energy normally used to turn the heavy stock steel flywheel is now used to turn your drive wheels! In addition, the reduced mass allows the engine to rev faster and get you into your power band more quickly. For turbo cars this is an even greater advantage, allowing the turbos to kick in faster since the engine is revving more quickly!

Acceleration On Demand
These flywheels are the perfect choice for street use, drag racing, autocross, and road race events. An aluminum flywheel can provide the equivalent of adding 10 to 30 horsepower to your vehicle at the drive wheels.
